About the Silver Eagles

The Silver Eagles are the brainchild of Jim Henderson, former hazardous materials investigator in the Office of Railroad, Pipeline, and Hazardous Materials Investigations. In 2002, Jim convinced Chairman Marion Blakey of the merit of forming an organization of retired investigators with the mission of promoting the Safety Board and the newly constructed NTSB academy. Jim picks up the story:

"I called this group the Silver Eagles. Personally, I just wanted a way to keep in touch with the amazing people that I had worked with in this agency and that seemed a good way to package it.

"This idea didn’t get off the ground before Chairman Blakey moved on. However, the idea remained nascent in my mind, and as I approached retirement, I wanted  to give it another try. My initial concept was, and is, simple: an organization for retired and former employees who have an interest in keeping in communication with their colleagues. "

In 2008, the idea finally got off the ground, and the Silver Eagles were formed. Now, we depend on our members to keep us flying high.
